MacMillan Cancer Support, Schools Teaching Pack.

To help bring the Youth and Schools programme in line with their new brand, MacMillan asked us to re-design the Cancertalk pack used in schools throughout the UK.

Needing to appeal to distinct audiences: teachers/youth workers and the children themselves, the materials would be used for a wide age range and their primary objective was to engage children's interest and encourage self discovery.

Every school in the country received a copy of this teacher’s pack as part of the National Curriculum. It guides teachers through the difficult subject of cancer discussions with children and incorporates teaching aids, lesson ideas and notes, posters, handouts for the pupils and advice on support.

Reflecting the children's own world through the use of colour and cartoons, the pack uses language that's open and friendly, avoiding fear statements, allowing cancer to be an acceptable everyday word.

Multiple versions were created covering all of the curriculum differences for England, Scotland and Ireland, with a full translation for Wales.
